The Connection Between TMJ and Headaches/Migraines

Aside from jaw pain, one of the more common symptoms those with TMJ disorder report is that of headaches or migraines. TMJ disorders can cause migraines and headaches due to the tension in the jaw. Furthermore, when you have a TMJ disorder, your the TMJ joints are not in proper alignment. As a result, the muscles and tendons on one side of the jaw tend to be utilized more than the other side, causing strain. Furthermore, poor alignment can cause excessive nerve pressure, resulting in pain and inflammation that can radiate throughout the face and cause headaches or migraines.
